Protein-Protein Interaction Network

      Protein-protein interaction networks are useful tools for understanding what other proteins a protein of interest is interacting with as well as the nature of the interaction. The interaction network in figure 1 was produced using STRING and centered on the JAK3 protein (pictured in dark red).  Figure 2 provides a list of the interacting proteins from figure 1 as well as their function and how their interaction with JAK3 was determined. The colors of the interaction lines in figure 1 correlate to the colors of the interaction information source in figure 2. While using the STRING database more information can be obtained about specific proteins or interactions by clicking on them in the interactive figure.

Ontology Tree

      
      The file below is an ontology tree or web representing the biological processes involved with JAK3 function.  It is a useful visual aid in understanding the extreme complexity involved with just this one gene.  By visiting the AmiGO website the ontology can be presented in a variety of formats, but the one presented below appears to be the most helpful of the AmiGO formats for our purposes.

The AmiGO ontology tree will load as an unreadable small picture but can be enlarged. 


Protein Function Table

     
       This table (figure 3) is less complex than the ontology tree presented above.  It presents a more basic and summary overview for users, and allows users (on the GO ALL website) to click on term names and see a list of other genes related to that process, component or function.  This makes GO ALL preferred to AmiGO if users are looking to understand how different genes may relate to a gene of interest.
